Our program targets underrepresented students for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) at the junior and senior high school level. We have year-round educational enrichment exercises that promote critical thinking and enrollment in STEM contests for individual projects as well as team challenges like the Team America Rocketry Challenge or TARC.
The NAACP’s Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) is a yearlong achievement program designed to recruit, stimulate, and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students.
ACT-SO includes 32 competitions in STEM, humanities, business, and performing, visual and culinary arts. Almost 300,000 young people have participated from the program since its inception.
The local ACTSO educational outreach program includes Team America Rocketry Challenge and Scholastic Young Artists and Writers for underrepresented 7th-12th grade students.
