Teen court is an alternative sentencing court where first time juvenile offenders plead guilty and are assigned to community service, jury duties, and educational components which focus on the particular offense. All defendants are required to take a DWI Prevention Class. Teens are judged and sentenced by a teen jury. They are also defended and prosecuted by a trained volunteer teen attorney. Teen court specializes in substance abuse prevention, shoplifting prevention, traffic citations, and other misdemeanors. After the teen accepts full responsibility, the charges or fines are dismissed upon completion of the sentence.
