APLF is seeking funding to purchase software, hardware and supplies so that 16 locations in our local public library system can initiate Coding Clubs for Kids. This initiative targets 12 to 16-year olds. The curriculum will expand the availability of coding education for teens, provide a foundation in computational thinking, support peer-based learning, emphasize persistence in problem solving and will introduce coding to students who do not have this opportunity at school or who have no computer access. The software for the coding clubs will be Prenda (http://prenda.co/librarians/). Since this program is a website, Wi-Fi access is the only requirement. The program is self-guided and self-paced. Persistence, problem solving and teamwork are essential skills for future employment. Without grant funding, the program will not be offered.
