The Albuquerque Sign Language Academy is an ASL-English tuition-free public charter school serving 100 students in grades K-10. It provides an innovative, dual-language, non-institutional educational model which is inclusive of all children and respectful of the family unit. The ASL Academy welcomes, encourages and educates all deaf children - including those with multiple disabilities - in an accepting and compassionate environment. Students attending the ASL Academy do not need to meet any admission or eligibility requirements and do not need to have hearing loss as their primary disability.
The mission of the Albuquerque Sign Language Academy is to improve educational outcomes for deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing students (including students with special needs) in the greater Albuquerque area by providing a rigorous standards-based bilingual educational program which utilizes American Sign Language and English to achieve academic excellence, support family involvement, and promote multi-cultural community partnerships.
