Vaulters perform gymnastics and dance on the back of a trained horse moving in a circle which is safely under control in the center by a line to a qualified coach/lunger. The Albuquerque Vaulters are a team which provides lessons in vaulting for for three different areas: Recreation, Competition, and Demonstration. Vaulting came to NM with coach Merry Cole in 1982. Come experience this great sport that dates back to ancient Roman times. We would love for you to come and join us at a class or event. We have many special events planned throughout the state each year. Albuquerque Vaulters offers classes for all levels. Our classes are held weekly. Vaulting develops coordination, balance and strength while workng closely with horses. As part of the fun program, vaulters regularly give clinics to camps and to refugee groups, as well as perform demos, and participate in parades.
Fundraising efforts are: beginner 6 week courses, selling beautiful vaulting shirts designed by Dyanne Strongbow, raffles, and 30 minute costumed productions performed in Renaissance Fairs using the vaulting horses. Scholarships are available - stable work for lessons. The team maintains 5 vaulting horses of different sizes and abilities and trains at the Cole Mine Farm in Corrales.
Albuquerque Vaulters' mission is to introduce and cultivate the sport of Equestrian Vaulting to as many individuals as possible regardless of race, gender, economic or financial ability. Through the use of trained horses they provide the vaulter with life learning skills, responsibility and self confidence.
