In 2012, the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology projected that the United States over the next decade would need about one million more STEM professionals than the country produced at its current rate to maintain its supremacy in science and technology. To do that would mean increasing the number of students earning STEM degrees by about 34 percent annually
About the Go Red For Women Movement
Launched in 2002, Go Red for Women is the American Heart Association’s national campaign to increase awareness of cardiovascular disease – the leading cause of death for women – and to inspire women to take charge of their heart health. The grassroots campaign is a vibrant, national movement in which women address the risk of cardiovascular disease to women. The local, year-long campaign, celebrated at the annual Go Red for Women Luncheon and National Wear Red Day, provides women of all generations with tips and information to live healthier lives.
About STEM-H Goes Red
Go Red for Women is focused on empowering women and improving their overall health and well-being. As the largest funder of cardiovascular and stroke research outside of the U.S. government, the American Heart Association understands the pressing need for more young people to pursue careers in STEM-H (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Health). We believe we must continue to invest in science with the knowledge that improvements can always be made and transformative information can always be uncovered. Powering the next great medical breakthroughs means empowering young people to take a seat at the table and dedicate their minds to advancing the fields of science, technology, engineering, math, and health.
The American Heart Association's (AHA) mission is "Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke."
A volunteer-driven organization fighting heart disease and stroke through funding research and community education programs.
