Angioma Alliance’s mission is to inform, support, and empower individuals affected by cavernous angioma, and drive research for better treatments and a cure. Cavernous angiomas are abnormal mulberry-shaped leaky blood vessels in the brain and spinal cord, which can cause severe neurological deficits, epilepsy, and death in adults and children. The mission of the Baca Family Historical Project (BFHP) is to decrease barriers to identifying, diagnosing, educating, and providing resources to New Mexico families affected by the common Hispanic mutation, a genetic form of the illness. New Mexico has the largest prevalence of the illness in the world. By equitably engaging key stakeholders, such as families, health professionals, policy makers, and the UNM Health Science Center of Excellence, affected communities make better life-long decisions about their and their family’s health.
