Parent Organization
Barrios Unidos

Barrios Unidos is a community organization addressing cultural and psychological issues related to addiction and cultural trauma in Santa Fe and Rio Arriba County. The organization brings together community volunteers and professionals from the sciences, the humanities, and the healing arts to explore and address the root causes of cultural crises, and to envision pathways of transformation. We believe it is vital to start transforming our community by first transforming ourselves and our ideas.

Barrios Unidos recognizes that knowledge must be followed by action. Therefore, as part of its mission, Barrios Unidos seeks to find and enliven expertise and models from inside and outside Rio Arriba County that can help us change the way we address addiction and cultural trauma. Rejuvenating our community begins with awaking the intelligence of the heart, “Querencia.”. (the folk term for love of place, land, culture, and people. If we do not learn to love them we will never defend them.)
