The Behavioral Health Research Center of the Southwest was established in 1997 to conduct research on substance abuse and other behavioral health issues. Our staff includes physicians and nurses, research scientists, biostatisticians, research assistants, psychologists, as well as consultants and contractual employees. We also provide support and supervision for University of New Mexico and Highlands University graduate level students. Our comprehensive behavioral health services include clinical trials, research and consultation, program design, curriculum development, evaluation, training and workshops, statistical analysis and reports on research findings. BHRCS serves the entire Southwest region. BHRCS has conducted a wide range of research on the prevention and treatment of substance abuse and other behavioral health issues, including the impact of cultural factors on health risks. Other key areas include clinical trials of medications for treating addictions, longitudinal studies of impaired driving, evaluation of methadone maintenance and health care delivery in rural and cross-cultural settings.
