Free, comprehensive and individualized admissions and financial aid counseling is the heart of our work. We help students to complete applications, write essays and resumes, apply for financial aid and scholarships, and compare financial aid offers.
We’ve expanded our work to provide a continuum of support before and beyond counseling. College Connections (CC) arose from witnessing the painful moment in which too many of our high school clients have discovered their ineligibility for the schools of their choice, due to a lack of adequate preparations. This Bridges-designed pilot curriculum works with the Taos High School (THS) Class of 2021 from 8th grade at Taos Middle School through graduation. CC teaches participants proactive steps to promote educational goals through progressive lessons. We build relationships with students so they can make best use of our counseling services in 11th and 12th grades. We implement CC on-site to ensure we reach the people most aligned with our mission and students who may not typically visit us.
We realize that getting students to enroll in a postsecondary program is only significant if they’re able to graduate. New Mexico institutions rank 42nd and 48th in two- and four-year degree completion, leaving many students with sizable debt but no degree. We’ve launched a support program to connect with Bridges alumni at pivotal points through their education, ideally increasing their chances of completion.
Bridges Project for Education’s (Bridges) mission is to expand postsecondary access, retention and completion for people of all ages, with an emphasis on those of the first generation in their family to seek higher education. Our goal is to provide equal access to postsecondary education for historically underrepresented demographic groups, including first-generation, low-income, minority and non-traditional students.
