The PAF are an important bridge between colonia families and services. Promotoras are a group of women that work in and outside of their own communities and participate in a variety of activities to learn more about mental well-being, community development, social services, and health. Promotoras de Apoyo Familiar expand and disseminate information about immigrant rights, immigration processes, health, legal, and social services in a linguistically, culturally, and community-sensitive manner. The mission of the Colonias Development Council (CDC) is to improve the quality of life through the promotion, development and preservation of decent and affordable housing in colonia communities in southern New Mexico while creating the space for social, economic, and environmental justice initiatives. The CDC was established to provide leadership, advocacy, and organizing support, through civic engagement activities for colonia residents, most of which are families of immigrants of mixed status.
