Communities In Schools of New Mexico (CIS) is the 26th state affiliate of Communities In Schools - a 45 year old non-profit organization whose primary focus is to ensure every student has the support needed to stay in school and on a path to graduation and a productive and meaningful life. CIS provides comprehensive integrated student supports (ISS) to any student attending any one of the ten Title 1 Santa Fe public schools in which we work. Full-time, bilingual site coordinators (the majority of whom are social workers) work with each school's leadership team (principal, school counselors, teachers) to determine a school's needs in areas of attendence, academics, behavior/social-emotional, parent engagemnet and basic needs. This work leads to a thoughtfully constructed CIS School Support Plan which guides each site coordinator in implementing a set of intervention/prevention strategies and tactics to mitigate challenges and obstacles impeding students' ability to get to school, engage, learn and thrive. Intensive case management ensures students with a high degree of need (basic needs, social emotional needs, academic needs) will receive ongoing long term support. CIS's nationally recognized, evidence-based framework ensures students living in poverty and often, suffering from the effects of trauma will receive the support and care needed to get on track and stay in school.
Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
