Our leadership development program, called “promotores,” emphasizes building the capacity of Latina/o/x youth leaders from the South Valley (87105) and Westgate (87121) with a 24-hour curriculum focused on civic engagement, environmental justice and leadership development. Curriculum also includes information on healthy eating, active living, behavioral health, violence prevention and economic development. Environmental justice, and in particular issue of clean air, and intersecting issues of immigrant, student, worker, and other human rights provides the framework for promotores curriculum. Youth leaders who successfully complete the program are awarded a $100 stipend and provided with meals and childcare during the training. Youth promotores trainings are hosted in the evenings in English and Spanish over twelve weeks and mother promotoras training are hosted on Saturdays in Spanish over six weeks.
Conservation Voters New Mexico Education Fund believes that protecting our environment begins with the people of New Mexico. We do this by engaging the people of New Mexico in our long-standing shared values of protecting our air, land, water and the health of our communities. We do this by mobilizing people to advocate on policy, enhancing the voting process, encouraging people to vote, cultivating conservation leaders and amplifying the voices of those most affected.
Juntos: Our Air, Our Water believes in the vision that healthy and strong Latina/o/x families and South Valley and Westgate communities in Albuquerque would have clean air, clean water and clean energy. Juntos is a solutions-oriented, grassroots program, that is led by the community. This means that Juntos builds power and shifts relations of power with Latino families as community leaders and decision makers. In Juntos, Latina/o/x mothers and youth in the South Valley and Westgate shape and lead local projects.
