East Bay NSBE Jr. Chapter's pre-college initiatives center on the development of 21st century skills, as they relate to real world problems regarding energy use and its impact on the environment. Teamwork and team oriented, learning focused, hands-on demonstration projects with specific results, annually impacts approximately 1,500 rising pre-college girls and underrepresented youth. Early career engineers design the curriculum and modules for age-appropriate youth in grades K-12.
The program results we are committed to achieving are that underrepresented rising students will demonstrate a strong ability to think, analyze and communicate the impact of their choice of energy has on the environment, understand alternative sustainable renewable sources of energy, scientific inquiry and the engineering process. Pre-College students will convey the results of their team projects during a presentation before a panel of professionals. We utilize SMART measures to direct the learning and to inform the outcomes.
NSBE Pre-college Initiative’s mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible women and other underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and robotics (STEM) careers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact their community. The vision is to establish a pipeline to STEM for our youth, where they can receive nurturing, mentoring, and guidance in their technology focused academic careers.
