EnCorps STEM Teachers Fellowship recruits, selects, prepares, and places experienced STEM professionals as teacher-leaders and STEM Expert (STEMx) tutors in underserved Bay Area public schools; working to ensure educational equity in science and math education, close the opportunity and achievement gaps for disadvantaged students, and address the severe STEM teacher shortage.
The Fellowship operates year-round. Candidates are recruited bi-annually and are assessed by a team of program staff, veteran teachers, and administrators who accept those with the traits of effective teachers, such as grit, cultural awareness, and growth mindset.
Accepted Fellows participate in career mapping with our program directors, guest teaching under the supervision of a mentor teacher, one-on-one instructional coaching, guidance through a credential program, and assistance with full-time teacher placement. Fellows become full-time teachers within 1-3 years.
Fellows have ongoing access to our online library of resources, including webinars, test preparation materials, sample assignments, and teaching handbooks; Professional Learning Communities, 3 annual in-person training Institutes, and monthly professional development events. EnCorps Fellows have an average of 17 years experience in STEM fields, 68% have a Masters or PhD, and 48% report as people of color.
The mission of EnCorps is to empower science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) professionals to transform public education by teaching in high needs schools.
