If you are a renter in multi-unit rental housing or are staying in a motel that has a pest control problem (bedbugs, small German roaches, rodents or mosquitoes), first report the infestation to your landlord or property manager. The City Environmental Health Dept.'s Urban Biology Division is happy to answer any questions that you may have. Call 311 and request a call back for advice and/or to lodge a complaint if you have reported the problem to your landlord or property manager and it is not being resolved. Or call the Urban Biology directly: 505-452-5300.
German cockroaches or bedbugs: If the problem is not resolved, Department staff will contact the landlord/motel manager and inspect multi-unit rental housing, including motels, after a report of bedbugs or German cockroaches (not the large roaches that are often found outside). They will do an initial inspection and check adjoining units for the problem, then do follow-up inspections until the infestation is gone or the threshold limit is reached (e.g., a few roaches).
Rodents: Inform property management of the infestation; this should preferably be done in writing. If no action is taken within 10 days, call 311.
Mosquito problem (rental or owned property): see website for details.
