Nightly, through our 13 host congregations, 13 support congregations, and volunteers, our guest families stay in a warm and caring atmosphere, including private sleeping quarters, home-cooked dinners, and cold food for breakfasts and sack lunches. Volunteers stay with our guests, listening and talking, reading to children or helping them with homework, and participating in games or activities. Each host church or temple houses our families a week at a time.
Each day, our Day Center provides a home base where families relax, take showers, do laundry, care for their children, receive case management, and look for housing and jobs. Our van transports our guests from the host congregation to the Day Center and back. Public school buses take children to their schools, and adults with jobs go to work.
The core of Family Promise is our case management, providing the support and accountability, which helps families pull themselves into self sufficiency. Our trained staff provide individualized case management and mentoring to fit the unique needs of each family. Our case manager helps families set specific goals and strategies designed to dismantle the obstacles preventing their success, and to teach them to find and maintain jobs and permanent housing.
Our mission is to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response. Family Promise has two goals for each family: gaining permanent housing, and the skills required to make homelessness less likely to reoccur.
