Food Pantries Need You! To find and support food banks and food pantries near you, enter your location (city, county) into this search in the SHARE Resource Directory.

Meals on Wheels New Mexico provides meals Monday through Friday for anyone of any age for any reason, and anyone living under 200% of the Federal Poverty Line is eligible for free or reduced cost meals. Delivered to your door by friendly volunteers, we provide eight types of medically tailored meals including heart healthy, renal, diabetic, vegetarian, and textured options. Additional programs include our pet program to provide furry companions with food, walks, and medical care; the weekend pantry box providing emergency, shelf-stable food options for the weekends where we do not provide hot meals; and the newspaper program which provides free copies of the Albuquerque Journal to clients. Map the Meal Gap. Food insecurity in NM dropped during COVID, but groups working to fight hunger worry the temporary reprieve will reverse itself now that federal pandemic-related monies have dried up. The latest annual study of Feeding American - called "Map the Meal Gap" and based on 2020 data -- confirms food insecurity continues in all U.S. counties in all 50 states, including NM.   

Food Insecurity in Grandfamilies. 25% of grandparent-headed households with no parent present experienced food insecurity, more than twice the national rate. The 2022 State of Grandfamilies Report,Together at the Table, includes the latest findings on grandfamilies facing high rates of hunger and food insecurity, as well as policy recommendation to help feed grandfamilies. Read the report to explore the data and learn why we need to change current policies to ensure access to adequate nutritious food for grandparents.

Ending Childhood Food Insecurity in NM. Food security – having reliable access to adequate amounts of nutritious food – is a social determinant for both physical and mental health.
