Forward Together’s mission is to unite communities to win rights, recognition and resources for all families. Since its founding in 1989, Forward Together has continually fought to dismantle the ways society marginalizes us based on race, sexuality and gender. We envision a world where we take care of each other and respect each other; where we recognize the shared leadership and sacrifice of people of color, women, immigrants, LGBTQ people and Indigenous people in building this country. When we join together and fight for every single one of us, we can build a nation where all families have the rights, recognition and resources they need to thrive.
Our primary approach is to lead movement building, power building and culture shift in partnership with individuals and organizations from our priority constituencies. New Mexico is the most well-established hub of our work. The Strong Families New Mexico (SFNM) program was launched in 2012. SFNM builds the civic engagement and leadership of a growing base of over 8,000 people in Bernalillo, McKinley, Doña Ana and Rio Arriba counties. We work with 20+ organizations in our network and dozens of other allied organizations to advance healthcare access, public safety and family recognition.
