GRIP's programs include the following:Responsible Mining Program - Monitor the environmental impacts of three Freeport-McMoRan copper mines in Grant County to ensure that the region's air, land and water are protected during on-going mining operations and at mine closure.Environmental Health - Promote prevention and mitigation of contamination from mining activities and other pollution sources to protect the environmental health of our communities.Healthy Rivers - Advocate for protection of the Gila River, New Mexico's last free-flowing river. Climate Change and Sustainability - Provide education and advocacy related to reducing the carbon footprint of communities in southwestern New Mexico in order to help mitigate climate, save energy and money, and make our communities more sustainable.Aquifer Protection - Promote sustainable use of our limited groundwater resources in southwestern New Mexico.Community Planning and Sustainable Economic Development - Advocate for implementation of smart growth principles that support a stable economy and clean environment.Promote locally-based economic development to develop vibrant and sustainable communities in southern New Mexico.
