Outreach

Outreach program activities include: performances by classical guitarists at high schools, middle schools, and other venues; the annual Artist-in-Residence; assistance to classical guitar students; support for classical guitar teachers; and classical guitar concerts for the public.

The Outreach program has historically consisted of sponsored performances by professional classical guitarists at New Mexico middle schools and high schools. In 2015, the Guitar New Mexico Board of Directors expanded its vision for the Outreach program to include many new and exciting ideas. The following statement of philosophy guides the Outreach program:

The Outreach program of Guitar New Mexico seeks to enrich New Mexico communities through educational and musical opportunities provided to youth, adults, and music educators. It is the belief of Guitar New Mexico that the vitality and strength of New Mexico communities is enhanced by such opportunities for our citizenry.

 Outreach program components include:

• Sponsored Performances – Performances and presentations by local and non-local guitarists utilize many different types of venues and reach as many people as possible.
• Artist-in-Residence – Each year, Guitar New Mexico brings an Artist-in-Residence to New Mexico for one week to enable more significant interactions with New Mexico guitar students.
• Student Support and Mentorship – Guitar New Mexico will provide performance outlets, subsidized lessons, and instruments for needy students.
• Teacher Support and Mentorship – Guitar New Mexico will offer opportunities for new and experienced teachers to train, exchange materials, and encounter new ideas for classroom and private guitar study.
• Concerts for the Public – In addition to concert performances included in the annual New Mexico Classical Guitar Festivals, Guitar New Mexico sponsors additional classical guitar concert performances throughout the year.
