Due to COVID-19, HEART House transitioned to HEART’s Hotel Program in October 2020 for the safety and health of the guests and staff. HEART of Taos believes this is the safest way to continue to support women and families facing homelessness during a worldwide pandemic.
HEART House provides emergency and transitional housing for up to 15 women and children facing homelessness in Taos. Free case management will be offered to all house guests to support their long-term stabilization. All services including counseling referrals, life skills training, education referrals, job readiness, and health and wellness referrals will be offered to all house guests.
HEART focuses on the long-term stabilization for clients which means helping them find long-term affordable and safe housing. HEART connects clients to all affordable housing options in the area (low-cost market rate rentals, public housing, Section 8, low-income housing, and Veterans Housing). Additionally, HEART provides transitional housing through the Taos Rehousing Program which offers a transitional housing subsidy and case management to some of HEART’s clients. HEART plans to partner with local agencies/individuals to provide complementary programs such as job readiness/resume building, financial literacy & budgeting, education, household maintenance, etc.
HEART of Taos' mission is to provide services and support to women and their children facing homelessness who are pursuing their life goals.
HEART's acronym stands for Hope Empowerment Advocacy Respect and Trust.
