New Mexico Home Fund. The Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) and Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) are now housed under the New Mexico Home Fund. This consolidated campaign simplifies access to emergency housing assistance funds for both renters and homeowners. Both renters and homeowners can go to NMHomeFund.org to get housing assistance. Also,all utility providers, landlords, and mortgage providers can visit the website to access documents and information they need to know to participate in the program.

Renter's Guide. NM Legal Aid has published a Renter's Guide for New Mexico. This guide will (1) provide information about the landlord-tenant relationship; (2) tell you about your rights in that relationship; and (3) help you avoid some of the problems that sometimes occur in renting houses or apartments. This guide is based on the NM law that covers landlord-tenant relations for residential housing, the "Uniform Owner-Resident Relations Act."
Out of Reach, the annual report of the National Low-Income Housing Coalition, documents the gap between renters' wages the cost of rental housing. In NM the Fair Market Rent (FMR) for a 2-bedroom apartment is $821. In order to afford this level of rent and utilities -- without paying more than 30% of income on housing -- a household must earn $2,735 monthly, and a full-time, year-round job must pay $15,78 an hour.
