RoboRAVE International - Robotics Education & Competition program

RoboRAVE International is a high value, low cost STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) focused program. Primarily serving NM communities statewide, the program is (2017) in 17 countries on 5 continents. Robot challenges range from introductory to advance in terms of tasks to complete. Each year, a new robot challenge is introduced while continuing the previous challenges. In 2018, RoboRAVE will be introducing the “Ethics in Robotics Challenge” to engage teams in arguing PRO & CON positions about robotics in our society. The players are provided the opportunity to earn points for engineering reports, corporate partnerships, and video documentation of their work.  Starting in 2017, RoboRAVE International will be held every other year in other countries. On those years, New Mexico will host RoboRAVE US to continue the outreach for robotics in NM & the US.

The bottom line: RoboRAVE is an annual robot education and competition program started in New Mexico for any kid, from anywhere, ages 8 to 98 years old. Held in Albuquerque, New Mexico the 1st or 2nd weekend of May, teams of 2 to 4 players compete with any type of robotic platform that is either autonomous and/or remote controlled to complete a variety of tasks. Quick stats: Over 85% of the players are from New Mexico; > 70% are middle and high school age; > 20% Native American and > 40% are girls.
