In February 2016, through a grant from Presbyterian Healthcare Services, Kids Cook! initiated a pilot project to help elementary school families access the health and social services they need to provide a healthy, supportive home-learning environment for their children. In addition to teaching students in the classrooms and providing family after school engagement activities, A Kids Cook! Community Health Worker is working at Kirtland Elementary to help families access the resources they need to provide a good home environemt for children in the schools they serve.
The mission of Kids Cook! is to improve the health of children and families by exposing them to a variety of culturally diverse healthy foods, providing the knowledge to prepare these foods and teaching the health benefits of increased daily activity. Our primary focus is to support families in Title 1 elementary schools that meet 50% free or reduced priced school lunch.
