League of Women Voters Central New Mexico(LWVCNM) currently uses, for its members/guests,Social Media programs of Face Book and Twitter. These social media will be expanded to include other popular Social Media programs. LWVCNM has monthly programs with information on voting, elections and government. By video taping these meetings, the information can be shared with members who do not attend these meetings, as well as other organizations/individuals who wish to become better informed and thus make better decisions when voting. Further, as the voter turnout levels are low in the US (around 30% in Albuquerque in the most recent election for Mayor), by informing citizens on candidates/issues, increased voter turnout, or participation in government, should occur. However, LWVCNM will have to promote its proposed plans to build links/relationships with organizations/iindividuals.
The next step is to video tape Candidate Forums which are held before elections and which provide voters with information on candidates and their proposed policies. As some people can not attend these forums, providing access to these forums via social media will help to provide voters with candidates' views and policies which should work to increase voter participation.
