To educate and advocate on behalf of all New Mexicans on the reality (dynamics, incidence, prevalence, statutes, effects, solutions) regarding sexual violence in New Mexico, for the purpose of an eventual decline in the incidents of sexual violence. We provide reference and informational materials on sexual assault and child sexual abuse, free of charge to NM residents. We also provide referrals (no direct services). Program services include: Coordination of statewide conferences on domestic violence. Providing training in regional settings to professionals throughout New Mexico. Produced and distributed sexual assault evidence collection kits, law enforcement guides, brochures, posters, and buttons. Researched and published statewide reports. Funded private non-profit agencies throughout the state to provide Rape Crisis services, child sexual abuse prevention programs and sexual assault nurse examiner units. Paid medical bills to medical facilities for the forensic exams of victims of child sex abuse.
NMCSAP leads the state’s efforts to reduce sexual abuse and sexual violence by providing training and technical assistance to service providers, law enforcement officers, prosecutors, medical practitioners, and mental health professionals.
NMCSAP also collects and analyzes sexual assault and domestic violence data and produces annual reports of the findings.
