Literacy Volunteers of Doña Ana County

Literacy Volunteers of Doña Ana County was founded in 1984 as a community response to local literacy needs.

  • We serve over 400 learners annually with about 90 volunteers.
  • We teach reading, writing, math, personal health literacy, financial literacy, and citizenship in both one-to-one and small group settings.
  • We were granted 501(c) 3 status in February, 2004.
  • Our chief partner organization is the Adult Education (AE) of Doña Ana Community College (DACC), whose mission is to provide access to education in a supportive and collaborative environment that leads to student success and lifelong learning. 
  • We are staffed by a half-time Education Facilitator and the Literacy Services Coordinator, who is also a faculty member of the AE Division of DACC.
  • We have a volunteer Advisory Council of community members.
