The Pedrozzi Young Scholars Program encourages and supports Marylin Avenue Elementary School (1) honor students through middle and high school towards achieving their post-high school educational goals.
Data show that not all Livermore students are academically prepared to directly enter a 4-year college upon high school graduation (2).
With this in mind, in 2016 we launched a pilot Pedrozzi Young Scholars Program for 5th-grade students who have earned a place on the Marylin Avenue Principal’s Honor Roll. These students will receive age-based, targeted support as they progress through grades 6 to 12 to be better prepared for entering a college or vocational training program upon graduation.
Program elements include: skill building, exposure to college and career options, mentoring, course selection, college applications and accessing financial aid. The program will also work to connect students to the wide-variety of existing school and community resources and extra-curricular opportunities.
(1) 82% of Marylin Avenue Elementary School students are Socioeconomically Disadvantaged compared to 26% district wide.
(2) In 2015, district wide, the percent of high school students who have completed college-prep course work was 47.8%, yet the rate was only 17.3% for low income students.
Mission: We encourage and support Livermore students in their pursuit of higher education and advanced training.
Vision: Livermore students will have sufficient funding and information to pursue the higher education and advanced training required for their future careers. We will achieve this vision through continuous engagement with the Livermore community to become a leading provider of scholarships, information and other educational resources.
