MathAmigos provides professional training for Santa Fe public school teachers that shows teachers how to build excitement for students learning math skills and developing mathematical thinking. It also sponsors Math Family Nights which feature fun math games designed to engage the entire family and provides in-class peer coaches to observe and provide direct feedback to teachers on how to improve their math teaching.
The mission of MathAmigos is to raise the math proficiency of Santa Fe Public School students. We believe that math skills are something that (1) everyone uses every day, and (2) everyone is capable of learning if math is taught in an interactive inquiry-based way. We are volunteers with backgrounds mostly in math, teaching, science, computer science, and school administration. We are embarking on a new initiative to help teachers combine math skills with reading and literacy.
