National Museum of Nuclear Science and History

As the only national museum in the state of New Mexico and the only nuclear science museum chartered by the U.S. Congress, The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History greatly contributes to the education and welfare of our citizens, and is in the unique position to elevate the performance of our students. The Museum's goal is to provide programs that are meaningful to students and meet the needs of teachers as they relate to national education standards. The Museum accomplishes these goals through minds-on / hands-on activities, excellent exhibits, innovative school programs, tours, and lectures.The museum was established in 1969, chartered by Congress as a NATIONAL institution in 1991, and has been Affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution since 2002. The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History has a professional educational staff that prepares hands-on activities in six specific science or history content areas:(1) Energy, Physics and Forces(2) Journey to the Sun (Flying Machines & Rockets)(3) Our Radioactive World(4) Big Deal: The Small World of Nano(5) The Manhattan Project(6) U.S. History Decision to Drop.Through excellent exhibits, innovative school programs, fascinating tours and lectures, the Museum's goal is to provide programs that are meaningful to students, meet the needs of teachers and exceed national education standards.
