New Day Youth and Family Services

New Day’s mission is to help homeless, disconnected and marginalized youth authentically connect with safety, the community and themselves. We envision a world where all young people's unique identities and talents complete and strengthen the social fabric of our community. New Day was established in 1976 as Albuquerque's first runaway shelter for youth. New Day serves nearly 1000 young people annually and is at the center of New Mexico's response to at-risk runaway and homeless youth. Our range of potent programs works together and in tandem with community resources to create a continuum of care to meet the needs of young people and their families. Our services include a youth emergency shelter; the Life Skills Academy that offers practical life skills development opportunities to increase young people’s functional intelligence, emotional intelligence, and social capital; supportive housing and transitional living services for young people experiencing homelessness and making the transition from adolescence to adulthood; detention diversion for young people who have committed low-level infractions; and a collaborative drop-in center that creates a safe place for disconnected, homeless and marginalized young people to develop positive connections, learn, grow, and more easily access medical and behavioral health care, employment services, educational supports, etc.
