New Mexico Asian Family Center (NMAFC)

To ensure the health and safety of our NMAFC staff, families, and all of our communities, our office will be closed until further notice so that we can help do our part of stopping the spread of Covid19. Our case managers are shifting our services to be done via phone, and we are rethinking how our programs can be implemented in virtual spaces. Please stay tuned.

New Mexico Asian Family Center provides following programs/services:

  1. Children and Family Program:Intergenerational, cross-cultural activities that bring the whole family together:
    • Multigenerational family activities, including storytelling, cultural cooking events, cultural arts and crafts, parenting groups, educational workshops, parenting workshops, sharing circles, youth groups, martial arts classes and etc;
  2. Support Services: For victims of crime, problem gamblers, and those seeking assistance in navigating U.S. systems
    • Legal services like family law consultations and representation:individual and family counseling, case management (securing housing, food, clothing, and social security), other resources and referrals, and support through the UNM Pathways Program;
  3. Community Education: Community education presentations to Asian and mainstream groups on issues impacting Asian communities:
    • Cultural competency, responsible gambling, language access, sexual and domestic violence, immigrat rights and etc;
  4. Advocacy: NMAFC staff and Mosaic Voices* members work for the rights, safety, and well-being of Asian families by advocating for equal access to government and community based services:
    • System change
    • Policy advocacy
    • Collaborative networking

NMAFC provides culturally sensitive programs and services, creating a Pan-Asian community that advocates for and supports itself.  Our hope is to help build a world where inclusiveness is valued and equal opportunity and justice exist for all.  NMAFC supports a vision of Asian children, families, and organizations connected as part of a thriving community empowered to advocate, engage in, and improve systems serving them.  Being the only agency in New Mexico that tailors its services to the Asian population, individuals from all over the state travel to NMAFC to receive our services.
