New Mexico Biopark Society

The New Mexico BioPark Society (NMBPS) is the support organization for the ABQ BioPark (Zoo, Aquarium, Botanic Garden and Tingley Beach). The ABQ BioPark benefits New Mexico’s children, adults, seniors and educators with recreation, education, conservation and economic development.

The NMBPS is a 501c(3) non-profit organization; donations are tax-deductible in whole or in part. It is not a part of the City of Albuquerque, but a separate legal entity. NMBPS is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and supported by local donors.

The BioPark Society raises funds from donations received from private foundations, individuals, businesses, fundraising events, state lobbying efforts, grants, and special fundraising campaigns. Since 1969 the organization has contributed over $12 million to the Zoo and since 1993 more than $3 million to the Botanic Garden and Aquarium.Specific programs funded by the BioPark Society include educational outreach such as the city-wide BioVan and statewide Zoo To You; conservation programs for the endangered species residing at the ABQ BioPark; ongoing funds for animal enrichment, species procurement, and exhibit upkeep/renovations; and capital campaigns such as the Vet Clinic expansion, Insectarium exhibit, and Penguin exhibit, among many others. Fundraising programs include ABQ BioPark memberships (Zoo, Aquarium, and Botanic Garden), BioPark Parent animal and plant sponsorships, special events such as River of Lights and Run for the Zoo, and tribute opportunities.
