The New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty works to assure that the policies, laws and practices intended to address the problems of those living in poverty are designed and administered legally, fairly and effectively.
NMCLP focuses on achieving long-term, system-wide improvements in laws, programs, and policies that promote economic justice and racial equity. We represent low-income families before governmental agencies, through the legislative process, and in the courts. We serve as community lawyers, working with our partners and community members to advance the health, education, and economic well-being of children and families across the state.
The New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty’s mission is to advance economic and social justice through education, advocacy, and litigation. We work with low-income New Mexicans to improve living conditions, increase opportunities, and protect the rights of people living in poverty.
Underlying this mission is a vision of New Mexico without poverty, where all peoples’ basic human rights are met, including the rights to food, housing, healthcare, a living wage, education, and equal access to justice.
