The Evaluation Lab trains community organization staff in an intensive 5-day Summer Institute, with ongoing support via a Project ECHO learning community. Project ECHO was developed by Dr. Sanjeev Arora of UNM Hospital (UNMH) to bring the expertise of medical specialists to general practitioners throughout the state. General practitioners present patient cases to their peers and to UNMH doctors through video conferencing. These remote “rounds” encourage peer learning and learning by doing. Organization staffers who attended the summer institute will present “evaluation cases”—evaluation plans, instrument development, data analysis--in weekly videoconferences. Peers joining the video conference remotely and faculty and graduate students at UNM will provide feedback. UNM participants will also provide ongoing technical training. Organization staff should expect to spend 2-4 hours per week working on their evaluation projects and participating in the Learning Community. The Community Training program aims to help organizations create feasible and effective evaluation systems.
To build evaluation capacity rooted in the needs of communities, and to facilitate the development of sound state policies around evaluation in New Mexico.
