At New Mexico Kids Matter we believe every child who's been abused or neglected deserves to have a dedicated advocate speaking up for their best interests in court, at school and in our community. When the state steps in to protect a child’s safety because the people responsible for protecting them have not, a judge appoints a trained volunteer to make independent and informed recommendations to the court. That volunteer is a CASA - a Court Appointed Advocate. Our organization recruits, trains, educates, and empowers community members to advocate for children in foster care as volunteer CASAs. A CASA volunteer ensures that each child's individual needs remain a priority in the child welfare system. We are the only child advocacy group working in the court system that provides a caring, consistent adult focused on the well-being of a single child.
New Mexico Kids Matter's mission is to improve the lives of abused, abandoned, or neglected children in foster care in Bernalillo County by providing them with trained volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs). We believe that every foster child deserves a CASA advocating to promote and protect their best interests and help find them a safe and permanent home. Our CASAs transform the lives of foster children by speaking up for their best interests in court, at school, and in our community.
