We partner with NMDOH to provide vision screenings at no cost to NM children ages 3-7 years old to identify amblyogenic risk factors. Daycare and preschool administrators and directors, and school nurses identify children who need an eye exam and/or glasses but are not covered by Medicaid or insurance, and then contact the KidSight Program Manager to initiate vouchers to provide an eye exam and glasses (if needed) at no cost. Eyeglass vouchers are provided to children and youth ages 0-18.

To identify amblyogenic risk factors and other vision problems that can adversely impact children’s ability to achieve academic excellence. To provide eye exam and glasses vouchers for referred children not covered by Medicaid or insurance. To develop and implement initiatives to ensure students have the eyewear (e.g., Spare Pair Program) they need and to educate parents, teachers, school nurses and the children themselves about the importance of healthy vision to being able to read and learn well (Healthy Vision – Learning Success Program).
