We produce original, nonpartisan research to inform New Mexico education policy conversations, as well as resources to help parents, teachers, policymakers and members of our community take action for our students. We partner with educators, students, parents and community leaders to identify the most pressing issues facing New Mexico schools and students, and we develop campaigns to support needed change and remove policy barriers.
Founded in 2018, NewMexicoKidsCAN is an education advocacy nonprofit working to ensure all students in the Land of Enchantment have access to a high-quality education. NewMexicoKidsCAN works to ensure education policies and practices enable our students to become the future community, civic and business leaders that New Mexico needs. We serve as a catalyst and conduit to advocate for community-informed, student-centered and research-backed education policies that work best for the children of New Mexico. By connecting policy, instructional practice and politics, we reimagine what is possible in our state’s public education system and advocate for systemic change. Each year, we set annual policy goals guided by our belief that students—current and future—must remain at the center of all education decisions.
NewMexicoKidsCAN is part of the national network 50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now. Although NewMexicoKidsCAN officially launched this year, the 50CAN network has been operating campaigns in states across the country since 2010, and NewMexicoKidsCAN builds upon the successes and lessons learned from these campaigns. Further, we benefit from the services and expertise of a national support staff in areas such as development, communications, strategy, finance, technology and HR.
