Impact Award

The Network, in cooperation with the New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women, in 2007 embarked upon a new means to recognize the contributions of women in New Mexico. This fall, the 10th Annual New Mexico Network for Women in Science and Engineering IMPACT! Award will be presented to a New Mexico woman for her extraordinary efforts in furthering the goals of the Network:

to encourage women to enter into and develop their careers in
science, engineering, and allied professions.

The honoree will be recognized during the Networks' Annual Meeting and Technical Symposium, held in late October.

NM Network for Women in Science & Engineering

The New Mexico Network for Women in Science and Engineering (NMNWSE or the Network) encourages women to enter into, and develop their careers in, science, engineering, and allied STEM professions. The Network strives to connect with women of all ages across NM through mentoring, career development support, providing STEM conferences for young women, hosting an annual and statewide technical symposia, organizing local chapter activities, and collaborating with other outreach and volunteer organizations.

The NM Network has helped sponsor statewide events for over 30 years, reaching more than 25,000 New Mexicans across the state. This incredible effort is successful through fundraising campaigns, integrating passions to support the need for women’s economic growth and stability, and building a broad membership base that believes deeply in empowering all women and girls in NM.

We are a group of women scientists, mathematicians, engineers, educators, managers, community leaders, and parents, who live and work in New Mexico. Members in local chapters around the state are dedicated to supporting and encouraging women of all ages to enter science-based fields and to providing supportive activities for women professionals in non-traditional careers. Members get together to share common interests, to celebrate our successes, and learn about each other’s work.

We encourage young women to enter the fast-growing high-technology STEM professions by sponsoring Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) Conferences throughout the state. These full-day conferences are designed to provide first-hand experiences in STEM and career information to 5 -10th grade girls, as well as parents, teachers, and counselors. The emphasis of EYH Conferences is to communicate the excitement and challenges we experience in our work through hands-on career workshops, scientific experiments, panel discussions, and interaction with professional role models who share their experiences and give practical advice.

NM hosts 6 EYH Conferences, placing us TOP 4 in the entire country with this honor. The conferences bring together more than 1,000 NM young women, over 300 NM presenters, and almost 500 NM volunteers each year, providing hundreds of hours of service.

The Network sponsors Student Awards at Science and Engineering fairs and technical competitions throughout the state. Distinguished Awards are provided to female participants for their exceptional project work, investigative approaches in STEM, and poster presentations. Network members serve as judges, on panels, and as project evaluators in events throughout the state, to highlight and bring award recognition to the outstanding efforts of our NM K-12 students.

The NM Network for Women in Science & Engineering thrives on strong partnerships, donations, membership dues, and building connections through an exceptional volunteer base. We do not have any paid staff members, are led by a volunteer Board of Directors, and members continually strive to celebrate the achievements of NM women and girls in science, engineering, and allied STEM professions.
