Mobility preferences and trends are expanding beyond a single occupancy vehicle and cities and towns that explore and provide safe multimodal transportation options are thriving economically and attracting new residents. These trends are occurring in not only big cities like New York or Chicago, but also places like Austin and Denver, and even here in Albuquerque. In particular, cities that are investing in bike share are finding it is a tool that acts as an expansion of public transportation, spurs local economic development, encourages community health and bike share is becoming a community amenity which young professionals demand in the places they are choosing to live.
Currently, Downtown Albuquerque is the host of a pilot bike share program called BICI Bike Share. The program was made possible by a generous seed grant from PNM. While the pilot continues to be very successful, there is a need and desire from the community to expand the project to include other Albuquerque neighborhoods. Just east of Downtown on Central Ave lies the historic Nob Hill Neighborhood. Nob Hill is thriving neighborhood with over 2,500 residences and over 260 businesses. The boundaries of Nob Hill outline a square mile of urban activity. We seek to expand the bike share program into Nob HIll.
The purpose of the Nob Hill Neighborhood Association is to enhance and improve the quality of life for residents.
