Nuclear Watch New Mexico will directly support and encourage community involvement through public education and engagement. We will help create a better-informed citizenry on LANL cleanup issues and preserve required public participation processes. We will pressure the New Mexico Environment Department to hang tough in negotiations over monetary fines and to preserve and increase the cleanup budget for ongoing chromium groundwater contamination, removal of radioactive wastes from Area G and other cleanup issues.
Through comprehensive research, public education and effective citizen action, Nuclear Watch New Mexico seeks to promote safety and environmental protection at regional nuclear facilities; mission diversification away from nuclear weapons programs; greater accountability and cleanup in the nation-wide nuclear weapons complex; and consistent U.S. leadership toward a world free of nuclear weapons.
