ONCE UPON A THEATRE'S productions include experienced adult actors, full costuming & detailed sets that are fully portable so they may be taken to schools throughout the Albuquerque metropolitan area & to surrounding communities. However, the portability does not sacrifice the quality of the visual beauty of the presentations. By performing in schools, the coordination & significant expense of arranging transportation for off site productions is eliminated & less time away from the classroom is required. Teacher Activity/Study Guides with previewing information & post viewing activities are sent to the schools in advance of the performance. At the beginning of each presentation there is an introduction period to explain the production, add historical information, & inform the young people about audience etiquette & participation. The performance is followed by a question & answer session. This interaction & sharing is a significant component of the full theatrical experience. ONCE UPON A THEATRE designs two age appropriate productions each school year. Fall Productions -- for children in kindergarten through 5th grade are original versions of classic fairy tales. Spring Productions -- for 4th through 8th grade students are original presentations or adaptations of exceptional literary works. ONCE UPON A THEATRE'S primary concerns are addressing the critical need for arts in the schools & offering additional ways to teach students basic skills for success.
A touring theatre company dedicated to improving the education of the children in our area. Brings into schools the joy, excitement & developmental & academic stimulus of live theatre & assists teachers in maximizing the experience through effective teaching tools before & after performances.
