The Santa Fe Reporter has been selected for a year-long placement through the Report for America—a new effort that’s akin to the Peace Corps for journalism. The program seeks to help local media outlets address coverage gaps, so we asked for assistance to better tell the stories of Santa Fe’s Southside. We will assign this reporter to amplify the voices of Santa Fe's Southside—its immigrant and indigenous community, service industry workers, entrepreneurs and families—through stories that impact their lives. The reporter would also cover the business and culture outside of the city’s contemporary downtown core, especially taking into account women, people of color, historical context, access to health care and education.
Report for America is a nationally funded program that places full-time journalists in local media newsrooms to address coverage gaps. The writer, who begins in June 2019 for a one-year placement, will be assigned to cover Santa Fe's Southside. The Reporter publishes a weekly newspaper and website, both of which are free to readers and reach the greater Santa Fe area. Independently owned and operated since 1974, we have a staff of 13.
