Building on our program from last year, the Santa Fe Animal Shelter requests funding to improve the accessiblity of our public use dog parks to those with limited mobility. Last year, PNM funded the provision of a gravel walkway around our largest dog park. The public was ecstatic. Where there was potholes and dust before, now community members and their dogs can walk on an even, comfortable surface around the periphery of the park. In fact, some cursory headcounts have shown that park attendendance may be up by as much as 25%!
This year we request funding to make these parks even more accessible, especially to the elderly and those with reduced mobility, by providing pathed pathways and roofed structures over transition areas so that patrons can arrive and let their dogs out to play unhindered by rough ground or inclement weather.
To support animals, save lives and spread compassion.
