The Everyday Matters Program was created by the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce Workforce Development/Education Committee to encourage excellent academic attendance by Santa Fe Public Schools (SDPS) students. The Chamber and local businesses recognize that chronic absences often lead to poor grades and lower skill levels, which can be detrimental to a student’s future. Simply missing two days each month means missing 10% of the academic school year. At the beginning of the school year, Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS) students receive an Every Day Matters flyer announcing the initiative. At the completion of the school year, the names of SFPS students, grades K-12 with no more than 2 days of absenteeism are entered into a prize drawing. With the generous donations by Chamber members and local businesses, three students from each grade received a gift valued at a minimum of $110; student gifts were presented at May 15, 2018 SFPS Board of Education Meeting.
The Every Day Matters initiative inspires better student attendance and takes students one step closer to achieving success after high school in whatever college or career path they choose.
The Mission of the Santa Fe Chamber is to strengthen the local economy and serve as the Voice of Business in community affairs.
Goals:
The Chamber is the number one business resource citizens look to in the community. The area's economic well-being is directly related to the caliber of work performed by the Chamber. The Chamber has major impact on business, income and future growth of the Santa Fe area.
