As one of the nation’s premiere professional ensembles comprising 24 singers from across the country, critics have lauded the Santa Fe Desert Chorale as a first-class performer of excellence in choral music. Currently under the baton of music director Joshua Habermann, the Chorale has assembled in New Mexico for more than 33 years to perform repertoire spanning seven centuries, from Medieval polyphony to contemporary and avant garde works. With more than 30 performances each year, the Desert Chorale has been lauded for its ability to sing more than 1,000 years of vocal masterpieces. Performing at historical sites in Santa Fe such as the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis and the Loretto Chapel, as well as other venues throughout Santa Fe and Albuquerque, the Chorale delivers a unique experience that gives audience members an intimate and personal glimpse into the minds of the great composers. Acclaimed performances at the 2015 American Choral Directors Association conference in Salt Lake City were recent achievements.
The Desert Chorale prides itself on performing diverse repertory with the finest professional musicians, an intimate rapport with audience members and supporters, and strong relationships within the community of Northern New Mexico, including collaborations with The Santa Fe Opera, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Santa Fe Symphony and Chorus, Santa Fe New Music, Santa Fe Pro Musica and the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Youth education and community outreach remain an important part of the Desert Chorale’s mission, and have included: All-County Youth Chorus, the Desert Chorale’s Children’s Choir, public lectures, pre-concert lectures, open rehearsals and performances at community events on the Plaza and elsewhere in the city, at schools and at senior residence communities.
The mission of the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, one of the nation’s premier professional vocal ensembles, is to excite, engage, and inspire diverse audiences with the beauty and power of great choral music.
Community Engagement Statement of Purpose: “the Santa Fe Desert Chorale is committed to sharing the power of music with diverse populations by providing arts access through collaborative programming and community engagement.”
