The 16 women of SFWE present concerts and commission music to increase the limited repertoire for women's voices. Our outreach programs teach skills and create music appreciation with young audiences. SFWE provides free music events at schools, libraries, churches and public nursing facilities and offers concert access to underserved residents of Santa Fe. SFWE performs in venues that are easily accessible to the public and provides free tickets to those who may need assistance.
Since 1981, SFWE has performed a unique repertory for treble voices. In 1988 Dr. Linda Raney took direction of the group and has guided this amateur Ensemble to sing with increasingly high standards. In 2010, Dr. Raney received the Mayor's Recognition award for Excellence in the Arts. In 2012 SFWE received the prestigious Adventurous Programming Award from Chorus America and American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. SFWE has commissioned new music throughout its 38 years, far above what most choral groups do, large or small, throughout the country. Our outreach programs foster an early interest for music in a new generation of singers and composers.
The Santa Fe Women's Ensemble promotes the recognition, appreciation and creation of women's choral repertoire through innovative and inspiring performances, recording and commissioning new music, and furthers its community involvement through outreach and education.
