Shine partnership is a long-term relationship between a church and a school with the goal of meeting needs in three areas: teacher support, student enrichment, and family development. Shine works alongside the Albuquerque Public School System to partner local churches with Title-1 schools. Together with APS, we assess priority needs each school is facing. We then seek a church in the community to partner with the school, support the school, and help meet the identified needs. Programs are then developed based on where the school’s needs and the church’s resources overlap. Shine is not a religious program; church partners sign a no-proselytizing agreement before being partnered with a school.
Our long-range goal is to see that every APS Title 1 School has an ongoing, meaningful relationship with one or more of the churches in their community. The ongoing relationships between the pastors, staff and volunteers of the local church with the administrators, teachers, and families of a local school can create a healthy synergy that will truly benefit the school. Schools will have a ready resource to contact to meet specific needs, and churches will have a built-in opportunity to show love to their community.
