SWFWW is a biennial literary festival begun in 2013. The next Festival is scheduled for September 29, 30 and October 1, 2017 with over 40 authors and 35 different sessions, featuring some of the best writers in the Southwest with a special emphasis on Hispanic authors. Past authors included Nasario Garcia, Simon Ortiz, and Denise Chavez. All sessions are open to the public and free of charge, making it accessible to everyone.
Included in the Festival are playwrights such as Mark Medoff who adapted his play for the movie Children of a Lesser God starring William Hurt.
About 1000 attendees will benefit from listening to and interacting with big-time authors in a small town. Local authors will share their work with the community and receive feedback and recognition. Local restaurants and shops will be packed with visitors.
The community benefits from the Festival’s partnerships that will be used to leverage resources and share costs to make the festival free to participants.
To celebrate the power and beauty of the Written Word, bringing together those who create with those who appreciate, with special empahsis on fostering community involvement.
